Activity #4: Classic Advertisement Evaluation

*Type of Propaganda*
The type of propaganda is Direct Order and Bandwagon. I chose Direct order because the subtitles or the words on the poster is trying to make women take action. Its trying to make women join the army and show that they could be just as strong as the men. I chose bandwagon because since everybody else is joining the army maybe "everybody" should as well.

*Point out explicit and implicit messages and values the propaganda advertises or endorses*
Implicit messages- That women can be as strong as men to join the navy.
Explicit messages- The messages is tyring to convince women to join the army.

*Discuss the propaganda intended audiences*
The viewers is targeting young women to join the navy.

*How might have the technological characteristics form of the propaganda impacted the its message and reception?*
When I look at this poster, I see that the words have more on impact because they're trying to convince the people to join the navy. I think when young women look at this back in the day, they would probably join the army.

-English translation-
"If you start a war of invasion, We shall destroy the American Bastard first!"
A recent North Korean posters against America

*Types of Propaganda*
The type of propaganda that its used is Appeal to Fear and Scapegoating. I chose these types of propaganda because the Korean is attacking the White house. You see the missiles coming at the White house, as an Hmong American I think that its a very scary feeling to happen.  The Korean wants to blame the Americans for the war and also try to create some attention to blame on the American.

*Point out explicit and implicit messages and values the propaganda advertises or endorses*
Implicit message- The North Korean are upset at American.
Explicit message- The missiles is heading at the White House and the United States of America flag is destroyed.

*Discuss the propaganda intended audiences*
I think the propaganda is aiming toward American people.

*How might have the technological characteristics form of the propaganda impacted the its message and reception?*
I think it impacted the American people because the text had a way of making the viewers upset and the pictures explain everything about the anger the North Koreans felt for the American.

Blog 4: Contemporary Army Commercial

Analysis Questions:
1. What information or facts does the ad provide? What information or facts does it withhold?
The facts that the ad do provide is that they keep repeating that they are ARMY STRONG. Its difficult because they are going to the army and laving their families behind. So they have to keep on moving on and going their own daily life and just live with it. They are proud of their love ones and are stronger no matter what happen.

2. Who is the target audience? How do you know? Be specific. (Consider the visual and linguistic (language) cues used in the clip.)
I think the they want to target basically anybody who is 18 or older who is willingly to go to the army force.

3. What emotions do you feel as you watch the clip?
I feel sad toward the family who have husband that are leaving to go to the army. Its really hard to even focus in life knowing that you will miss him day by day. I am proud to say that they are willingly to go out there and help America. That's really brave of them to fight for the country. But overall I know that they are going to be okay.

4. Are any of the messages in the clip "loaded?" (Meaning, words or images that have a connotation, an emotional meaning, that makes the words subjective and the user of these words bias.) How are they loaded? Explain.
The language they are using often is "Army Strong". They use strength to show that they are courageous in every way.

Blog 3 Reflecting on representations and stereotypes

1. How did you choose what stereotype to focus on?  Why did you choose the stereotype you selected?

A: Our group was having trouble choosing the topic. My group member were changing topic quite a bit but I was okay with it. We finally came to the decision about "Women are useless" or "Unsuccessful women".  We chose this topic because we thought it would be interesting to observe and to critically think about.

2. The media you created is intended to respond and resist a current stereotype.  Do you believe your media actually accomplished this?  Why or why not?

A: No because we didn't have a movie clip to show to the class. I was so nervous. I felt like my group didn't accomplish as much about resisting the stereotypes. The topic was very unique but it didn't turn out the way I had plan. I was super ready but I found out that the movie clip weren't email to Ms.Vasich. I put a lot of effort to wrap things up and we had to separate the work while my group member had to find the movie clip. For me, I thought I had fail to even get to the point of explaining it.

But I try and so did my group member.  I know my fellow classmates were confused and I was trying to come up with the best answer as I could but I felt pressured. I know for sure that I didn't do a good job of it but whatever at least I gave it my best shot. Hopefully, next time, we'll be ready and organized to present.

3. One of our overarching questions for this class is "How can we use media to EMPOWER us, create awareness, and change the world?"  Please respond to this question as you consider the work you did for the alternative media project.  Ultimately, you need to ask yourself what you've learned about creating media that really means something.  What was difficult about the process?  What worked?  Why does this project matter?

A: I think that media is used to change the way people think or feel. Media can makes people look at things in a different ways. It was difficult, like I said, I knew that I did poor job of explaining the project to the classroom. It matters because people need to know that stereotypes are just made-up stuff about another race or whatever and it cause the problem to get bigger.  Like for example, Lindsey Lohan, has been drinking and she ruin her career. She was very popular but it turn out that she wasn't the perfect girl that people thought she was. I can understand that no one is perfect but when your a big celebrity icon, the paparazzi would do anything to put you on the magazines. They would want the bad stuff about you for the most part. Or when the 9/11 happened, people started labeling all Muslims terrorist. I hope that answer the question.

Blog Prompt #2: Reflecting on Black White

Q: Do you think the reality show, Black White ultimately reinforces or resists racial stereotypes?  Explain.
A: I think the black and white show reinforces racial stereotypes because it seem to me that the white family don't seem to understand how to communicate well with the black family. The white woman called the black woman the "B" word and I think to me is that the "b" word shouldn't be used regardless what race you are. I think its common thing were you can't use a certain words just out in the open just because you feel like it okay to say it. Some of the stereotypes aren't true. Like Bruno, the white man, he thought it was okay to say the N word. Its not okay to say it because its such a powerful word.  Also, when Bruno say that they should lock they're doors because he thinks that the black people would come and steal their stuff. I could tell he was joking about it while he was laughing to himself. I thought it was kind of harsh how he said it. I don't think that black people steal at all. I mean, I know for the majority of people,  its not necessarily true.

Q:Why do you think people continue to categorize themselves and each other into social categories?
A: I think that people wanted themselves to be recognized how different things are in their own social life. Like say for example, when people starting wearing Hollister clothing, some white people say that they "claim" or were the first person to wear it. Then other people like myself thinks that its just a brand and anyone can wear it regardless of there race.  People want to categorize themselves because they want to be known in a certain group.

Friday 9/17 Media Use Log #4

Lunchtime- I was checking my email. Yet again, I always check my email whenever I can get my hands on a computer. I didn't reply any message since they were none. I didn't use much media for today.

Lunch-3pm- I was using my blogger. I was editing about how much media that I used. I was online for my email and working on my blog. I was watching the cigarette commercial. It very interesting but one of the video that made me laugh was the Musical commercial. The other one was the mom leaving the boy. I thought that was really sad. She was such s rude mother to leave her kid like that. If I was the mom, I'll never ever leave my kids. I'm actually grateful that I don't do smoking, drugs, and those other bad stuff. But I think the message was that if you were to be addicting to smoking, you'll end up losing your kids.

3:00-5:00pm- I was listening to my Mp3 player. It's fun hobby that I do. I love MUSIC!!! In my playlist, I have all kinds of music such as rap, rock, etc. But most of my music are Asian songs. I was listening to this one song called "Forever with you" by Big Bang. There a RnB/Hip-hop/Rap band. They are really good. You should check it out. ( Go to YouTube if you would like to check there music out!) Big bang are well-known band in Korea. They are the coolest band of all time. I was also listening to "wedding dress" by Tae Yang. Tae Yang is one of the member from Big bang. But he has his own solo album. I think he is super hot! U know his music is very sweet and it really touching. His music inspire me a lot. I wouldn't go a day without my music.

Thursday 9/16 Media Log Use #3

Lunchtime- I reply my email to my friends. I just message to them about how I am doing and those sorts of stuff. I also surf the net looking for clothes. I don't necessarily by any things online but I do search for any good stuff the websites might sell. I like looking at hot-topic clothes. I love punk clothing. I don't really wear any of those since I don't have any. Anyways, I think that surfing the net is a way to search for stuff.

Lunchtime-3pm- I wrote my my log in my blogger. I am writing about my media use. I also watch cigarette commercial. There was this video that actually made me sad. It was the one when the mom left the little boy in the airport place. I was surprised. I ask myself why would anyone leave there kid at the airport or anywhere. If I were the mom, I would never ever leave my kids. I think that is so selfish of her. In my opinion, I think that the messages is trying to say that smoking can make you lose your love one.

Wednesdays 9/15 Media Use Log #2

6am-8:30am-  I reply emails to my friends while I was in zero hour. In zero hour, I am making up credits for Social studies. I learning about Thomas Jefferson and his trades. Its not really that complicated because some of this stuff about history I already learned last year. Zero hour is a make up crdits class. Its not a letter grades class. It help students like me to catch up faster so that they could graduate on time. Its similr to RAP class.

Lunchtime- I went online and again check my email. I always check my email constantly for messages. I ws surfing through hot-topic websites. I love hot-topic.  I was looking at online for clothes. Hot-topic is one of my favorite store. They sell clothes, hats, cds, etc. I was looking at a hello kitty hoodies. It was os cute online. I wanted to buy it but I don't have money at the time. I don't care how expensive it is because when it comes to hello kitty, I'll do anything to buy it. I only looked at hot-topic specificly for hello kitty stuff. I am a Hello kitty fanatic.

Lunch-3pm- I watched ciggarettes commericals. The most interesting commerical I saw was when the boss from the cigatatees compay started to sing. I thought that he was going to kick the young men out but instead he sang and so did the other boy. It was really funny. They stated dancing and doing all sort of stunts. I though it was cool to see a commerical like that.

3:00-5:00pm - I went to my friend Sarafina house. We didn't really do anything beside talk. Then Sarafina older brother Chris. We went to his house and play game. We were doing karoake. It was okay. I was super bored, hungry, and tired. Ivette and Sarafina was doing most of the karaoke.

5:00- 7:00- I went to the MOA. I saw  whole bunch of ads. Such as Victoria Secret trying to sell their clothing and stuff. Its not really that surprising because I see almost ads everyday of my life. There was many ads at the MOA. But Victoria Secret seems to be the only one I can care talking about at the moment. I don't shop at Victoria Secret. I was just roaming around and I saw a women wearing bikini and they had this little text right next to her face. I don't remember what it said but it was trying to make people buy bras or the stuff they sell there.

6am-8:30am- I usually have to wake up early up in the morning because I have to catch the city bus. I also have to babysit my baby brother.I don't usually watch movie this early in the morning but when there's a baby in the house, I got to. I watched the movie with my little brother and older sister. We were watching a bollywood movie. I only got to watch it a little bit. But I already saw the whole movie before. The movie is called "mohabeten". Its a sad story lines about a guy trying to proved the professor about love. The main guy was in love with the professor's daughter. The professor's daughter commited suicide. But in the end, the professor's realized that love conquer all. My favorite quotes that from the main guy said was this " It will take you ten lifetime to remove love..." The movie was such a touching movie.

Lunchtime- During, lunchtime I was checking my email. I was also replying message to friends. I keep in touch with my old  friends. But I usually keep in touch with him since he's the only guy friend I can contact. My friend who I nicknamed froggy. He's super kind. Blog Post #1

I learned that the media has a lot of stereotype.I think the commercial that shows about the Dove, editing the woman to make her look beautiful. I was so surprised that they try to make her look really pretty so that they can sell there products. I think that Dove was against it and I think they're message was to bring real beauty. Instead of "zombie" looking woman on the magazines. I thought that the media try to stretch out the truth in other word they were lieing.

hoop dreams

I think the purpose of the movies is that you have to work hard to reach your dreams and goals.
By reaching your dream and goals, you have put a lot of effort to it.
The story was based on two guys named william gates and arthur agee. They are viewing both of them and telling there own story.
They pulled out pictures while someone is talking. They also did this other effects like when someone was talking, they play a video of a old NBA games.
