Tornados in North Minneapolis

One of the articles that my group member wrote was about the tornadoes that happened in North Minneapolis. I lived in the neighborhood. The house you see posted on our websites, the upper right picture with all the trees, that's my house. It was damaged. It was the most scariest thing that happened in my life. It was like walking to a nightmare-but this time it was real. My mom, 16 year old brother, 13 year old sister, two year old baby brother and me was inside the house when it happened.
It was on a Sunday of May 22 around late 1:45-2:00pm when it happened. I was listening to music and coming up with beats for my lyrics. My mom was cooking as usual. My brother and sister were playing video games on the x box. My dad and older sister went to my grandma's house to look at a new car. First there was a black out. My brother and sister as I stated earlier were playing video games. They were right next to the windows. But all of a sudden, there was a loud swish! But then the power went on again. So, my brother and sister ran to the bedroom and looked for more video games to play. Then the power went completely off.
But in the blink of an eye, the siren was on and that's when I knew something was wrong. I felt the wind pressure coming toward my house. It was faster then the speed of light. I won't ever forget that moment. I screamed at my mom and said, "Mom! Tornadoes is heading this way!" My mom automatically turn off the stove and ran for cover. My brother and sister ran with my mom and hid for cover as well. My family went to "shock" mode and I think they forgot about my baby brother who was asleep in the living room. As shocked as I was, I was calm. But before I could run for cover, I grabbed my baby brother from the living room and ran all the way down stairs. I was crying so hard and my baby brother woke up from this. I remain calm and told my brother that's it going to be OK. My family was crying and screaming. It was so horrible.
When the tornadoes finally past, my mom screamed for me and my brother. She opened the door and my baby brother was safe in my arms. Everyone in my family was safe. My mom called my dad on the cell phone and told my dad what happened. My mom handed me the phone and my dad's first question was "Where is my son?" I screamed, "Dad! A tornadoes came and our house is destroyed! I'm so scared. Your baby is OK! I knew how much your sons mean to you..." I couldn't finish my sentence because I was breaking in tears. There was a long silence. I could hear my dad breathing heavily from the phone line and then told me this, "Listen, honey, I need to talk to your mother." I gave the phone back to my mom and went downstairs and cry even harder. I won't forget that day.
But when the tornadoes cleared out, the whole neighborhood went out. People were running and crying. My community started chopping down trees to get through the streets. Polices car was blocking the streets and helicopter were flying everywhere. I never saw that much care in my neighborhood. It was very heart-warming to see that. But few houses were swiped out. Its like a ghost town.
I survived the tornadoes. My whole family are safe and sound. I didn't get to reunite with them until three days after the disaster happened. I was happy to see them again because they took shelter at my grandma's house. Its really devastating in all but I'm working my way and trying to get through it. Our electricty is back on but there's still a lot of streets that need to be cleaned up.
I am strong and I will get through this. I am a tornadoes surivior and am glad to be here today. I have big plan for the future.

Blog#2

In this documentary, Its about young kids being obese. I think there was one part were they showed that advertisements play a role in children lives. This video also said that they had to take away beverages such as soda. They are giving a bring heath fitness to young children so that they can stay healthy. It not adults that are obese but young children are aslo affected by it and it may cuase them to have bad helath when they grow older. So if health eduaction is brought into the school then kids are going to learn eat healthy. They want to educate kids to eat healthy. It shows that health is a big issues and most school aren't changing their way of eating but this particualr school is in the process of changing.

Viewing and Reading Guide Blog#1

1.
Q: Should fast food companies be held responsible for the obesity problem in the US? Defend your point of view.
A: I think that reading the packet and watching the first and second video had shown that fast food is held responsible for American health. Obesity is a big issue. The movie of "Supersize Me," proven that it is the fast food that people are overweight. The guy who did a experiment for 30 days that by eating fast food three time a daily has caused a major health issues for fellow American. In the movie two girls sued McDonald's. The reason why they were overweight was McDonald's fault. Watching the whole movie had proven exactly that fast food has been unhealthy to individual. In the movie "Food Inc, " the gov't or the FDA are hiding whats in our food. They don't want consumers to find out what is put into their food. Labels such as can food are told but not all of it. How the food was distributed is disturbing like when they were killing the animals or when they mistreated the animals.
2.
Q: Did any of these texts change your view own eating habits? Explain.
A: Yes, in some circumstances. I try not to eat fast food as much. I like eating fast food but I don't eat it as daily. I know that it has bad effect to my health. I never knew that it would be a problem to the community but global wide. Fast food is a major issue and it is quite surprising that the FDA don't tell where the food is coming from. When I buy food, I know am more cautious and curious if the label in the can of food are true. For example, a bottle of vitamin juice still has low sugar of other flavor that's been pit into the drinks. Its really shocking to see why the govt would hide and stuff but I am glad to know some knowledge behind the food that been put into our food.
3.
Q: Why did you think these messages (Supersize Me, Ominivore's Dilemma) are being sent? Why the current interest in food politics.
A: They are being sent because consumers deserve to know whats in their food and how it would effect their health. Consumers are feeling unhealthy due to fast food. For example, the movie Supersize Me, had proven that people are sick and that lead to illness such as stroke, diabetes, and asthma. IT also makes the person feel like their about to vomit and they feel depressed most of the time.

globalization and food

Hungry Planet: List of globalization
- Globalization changes is based on people's movement; cultures bringing different kinds of foods.
- Advancing in technology or having access to technology.

Globalization affected the way people eat because there's not enough food to be distributed. Such as fast food over here in the US vs. other countries are different. The US waste more food in here then over there.
Then which cause obesity in globalization. Countries across the nation such as Chad don't have enough food due to lack
of government system and other things. The food industry is speeding up because we are changing the way we eat. There are varitey of tasty foods out there that people would rather eat.

*** I googled this pictures Just btw***
This graph shows how much other countries are developing through the food market. This graph shows that people chose to buy their
food at the supermarket and cook their own food vs. eating fast food like McDonalds.

*** Googled this pictures as well***
I thought this pictures was interesting. Many other countries are in need of food. People are starving and they are willingly to get the bag of rice or whatever that his/her is holding. This tells me that there not enough to be distributed and also not enough resources to allow other family to get the help that they want.

Blog Assignment: Feed, Part II

What is the Feed?
The novel about Feed is based on the "future" tense of the brain. Feed is sort like a chip or Internet access that's attached to their brain.
How does the Feed influence the lives of the characters?
They are a huge influences on the people especially the narrator and his friends. I think without the feed chip, they can focus well. The narrator wanted to comfort Violet but he couldn't find the right word to say.
How does the Feed differentiate the characters' lives from our own?
I think that having the chip makes them intelligent. They can think really fast and act progressively.
They really influenced by the media. Its like they can't live without their feed links. I think the media is a big influences just like us but I have to say the only difference is that they have all the info. link to their brain with their feed chip. I think that's really scary and I think that its way too much technology into their world. They get there info. quicker and faster.
